Eugene Sartory (1871-1946)'s viola bow
This viola bow, gold mounted, was made circa 1925.
Born in Mirecourt, Eugène Sartory began learning bow making with his father. He perfected himself in Paris, working with Charles Peccatte then Alfred Lamy. In 1889, at 18 years old, he got his first workshop in boulevard Bonne-Nouvelle. Since 1920, his international reputation was firmly established. He is considerate as one of the greatest bow makers of the XX century, his sticks are very well balanced and his bows are particularly sought after.
